Born in 2013, Britannia Royal is a 16.1hh liver chestnut SHB(GB) premium graded stallion by Royaldik (Oldenburg) out of the legendary elite 4* mare Headley Britannia, winner of Badminton, Burghley, Kentucky and a team Olympic silver medal.
Britannia Royal has outstanding world-class bloodlines for breeding event horses: his dam Headley Britannia is by Jumbo, who has consistently topped the BE leading sires list and is the sire of many other top horses such as Andrew Nicholson’s Avebury, record three-times winner of Burghley; Allercombe Ellie; Henry Tankerville; and Mr Chunky, 8th in his first attempt at Badminton this year.
On his sire’s side, Royaldik is by the renowned stallion Royal Diamond, out of the thoroughbred mare Herka who is full sister to Heraldik, the outstanding sire of international event horses and top of the world eventing sire rankings for a decade, as well as being damsire of Michael Jung’s fabulous La Biosthetique-Sam.
This good-looking young stallion is the full package for breeding eventers with at least 70% thoroughbred blood, to introduce speed and stamina, and is the epitome of a modern blood-type sport horse. He is a short coupled horse with excellent conformation, rhythmic balanced paces, and a quick, bold, athletic jump.
Britannia Royal has a fabulous temperament: he is a calm, friendly and polite horse – and has been from birth! – but with a bold outlook on life and a very focussed attitude to his work. He is a pleasure to handle at home, at stud and at competitions.
In 2017 he was awarded a Certificate of Merit as the Top Futurity Eventing Three Year Old at the prestigious BHF/British Breeders Awards Dinner.
His fertility has been outstanding in his first two seasons as a breeding stallion. He covered two mares belonging to a friend as a three year old, both in foal to a single covering, producing two lovely foals in 2017; this was also his first season at public stud where he attracted a super book of mares by such good stallions as Chilli Morning, Cruising and Hot Rumour. He achieved a 90% conception rate from the first insemination with both chilled and frozen semen, travelling all round the country.
He also offers the exciting prospect of producing some interesting colours! We anticipate that a cremello mare currently in foal to him will produce a palomino foal.
Britannia Royal has been tested for, and does not carry the gene for WFFS (Warmblood Fragile Foal Syndrome).
