His first outing in 2018 was Munstead BE, on very sticky, holding ground which was challenging after a winter of jumping on surfaces. He produced a lovely dressage test for 29.5, a clear show jumping, then one green glance-off x-country for 20 penalties, so a good solid start to the year.
Ron made an excellent start to his eventing career as a four-year old. After a few green ‘wobbles’ in his very first competitive x-country round, he then came out three times more, coming 10th at Borde Hill unaffiliated with our daughter, Katy Wise, looking incredibly enthusiastic and bold x-country; he then went onto West Wilts with Cath Fowdrey for his first 4 year old section, finishing on his dressage score with another confident x-country round; and rounded off his first season with an 8th place at Burnham Beeches unaffiliated, again storming round the most challenging, and long, x-country course tackled so far.
In January he went for his first ‘sleepover’ show at Addington Manor, coping fantastically well in strange surroundings, and over the three day show he jumped in five classes, achieving double-clears in four of them, with a single pole in the fifth class, picking up a 3rd, 4th and 7th placings along the way.
He currently has £96 on his card from relatively few outings, so he is looking strong in this phase for the future.
